How To Make Waffles From Scratch

How to make homemade waffles in minutes with ingredients you most likely have on hand!

As grocery store prices are continuing to climb it is becoming more and more difficult to stay on a budget. Now is a good time to start making some foods from scratch.

Most people think baking or cooking from scratch is difficult and time-consuming, but that's not necessarily true. There are many things you can make in just a few minutes, like waffles, pancakes, and muffins. Depending on where you live the cost of pre-packaged frozen waffles is close to three dollars for eight. With basic pantry ingredients, you can make waffles at a fraction of that cost and have enough ingredients to make bread, pancakes, cake, muffins and so much more.

I will link simple, inexpensive but delicious food from scratch recipes below. You have to try my homemade bread recipe. It requires only one knead and comes together quickly.

Get creative with your waffles, and make breakfast sandwiches. Ham, bacon, or sausage with a fried egg and a little syrup and you have a homemade McGriddle. BLT’s are another great option and delicious on a homemade waffle. You don't have to spend a lot of money on a waffle maker, I have a mini one I bought for less than ten dollars at Walmart on Black Friday. I will link one similar below from amazon.

Can I freeze homemade waffles?

Yes! Make the extra batter, and freeze waffles in a zip lock bag for up to 4 months.

Tips For Making Waffles

Here are some helpful tips for making waffles:

1. Avoid overmixing the batter, a few lumps are perfectly fine.

2. Keep your waffles warm by placing them on a cookie sheet in the oven at 200 degrees.

3. Before pouring the batter, preheat your waffle maker and give it a light grease for easy release and crispy results. Enjoy your delicious waffles!

Ingredients

2 cups flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 tablespoons sugar or 1 tablespoon of honey

2 eggs divided

1 ⅔ cup milk

5 tablespoons of melted butter

How to make chedder waffles

1. Preheat and grease the waffle iron.

2. In a bowl, combine the dry ingredients - flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

3. In a separate bowl, mix together egg yolks, milk, and melted butter.

4. Whisk or beat the egg whites in a small bowl until fluffy.

5. Add the egg yolk mixture to the flour mixture, stir to combine, and gently fold in the egg whites (lumps are okay, don't overmix).

6. Using a large spoon or small measuring cup, drop the batter onto the hot waffle iron. Cook for 4 to 6 minutes, checking halfway through as cooking times may vary depending on the waffle iron. Enjoy your delicious waffles!
