Questionnaire

How long does homemade body butter last? The body butter will last 6 months in an air-tight container. I use small mason jars.

How to make homemade body butter less greasy? Add 1- 2 teaspoons of Arrowroot powder or cornstarch. Start with less and add it slowly. Adding too much will take away from the fluffiness.

How many jars does this recipe make? This recipe will make approximately two 4 oz mason jars.

What is Arrowroot powder? Arrowroot powder is extracted from the arrowroot plant. It's used as a thickening agent in food dishes and baked goods. It's very similar to corn starch. Arrowroot powder will absorb some of the oils in this recipe, making it less greasy on the skin.

Ingredients

½ cup cocoa butter

½ cup shea butter

½ cup coconut oil

½ cup olive or avocado oil

Optional arrowroot powder or cornstarch 1-2 teaspoons

Optional essential oil

How To Make Homemade Whipped Body Butter.

1. Melt the olive or avocado oil, coconut oil, cocoa butter, and shea butter. I put all the ingredients in a glass bowl and melt it in the microwave, stirring frequently. You can use a double broiler, or put a glass bowl over a pot of boiling water. OPTIONAL add arrowroot, cornstarch, or essential oils at this point. You only need to add the arrowroot or cornstarch if you want less greasy body butter. I find that body butter absorbs very quickly and doesn't leave my skin greasy.

2. Let the bowl of mixture cool on the counter for about 15 mins. You don't want to put a hot glass bowl in the freezer because it could shatter. Once the bowl has cooled down, place it in the freezer until the mixture is firm, not hard just firm. See the video tutorial below.

3. Whip the body butter mixture with a handheld mixer until it's light and fluffy, this will take a few minutes. See the video tutorial below.

4. Store in an airtight container. Mason jars work wonderfully. I will link some great ones below along with the cocoa and shea butter I use. Cocoa and shea butter are not expensive and remember you will get multiple uses from them.
